Volunteering

Most funeral and memorial societies are sustained exclusively or mainly by the work of volunteers.  BAFS relies on volunteers to do the varied work of the organization.  Volunteers may come as needed to work on responding to inquiries, death registry, and updating the database.

Much of the BAFS Office work is contact with people:  By telephone, in person, by email.  Most of the contact is via telephone.  It takes both being knowledgeable in some detail of the field of death, as well as skills for talking with many different people with different takes and desires.  Some of this work also entails talking with media persons, and, in fact, contacting media about certain issues which need to be aired.  This last point is not unrelated to the need to develop volunteers who can comprise a 'speakers bureau'.  This remains an ongoing matter for which some orientation and working sessions need to take place.

A good way to get acquainted with these aspects of the work is to visit a boardmeeting.  The Board of BAFS typically meets on the last Friday of every month.  The Board also needs people to serve--and the best way to find out about that is to come and visit.  If you are interested in any of the BAFS activities which make BAFS function, contact the Office.
